March Notes

BY MAX SALVADOR

Doral Community Council Member

This month the Doral Community Council only had one meeting to consider zoning applicants.

We had three proposals presented to us. The first was regarding signage at a site on 97th Avenue and NW 25th Street. Another regarding a modular building on the property at NW 109th Avenue and NW 24th Street, and a third for a day care center at NW 114th Avenue and 36th Street.

I was encouraged by the willingness of the applicants to meet with the community before coming to the council, as this was my first zoning meeting.

We deferred the first two issues until a later date, and approved the day care center during the relatively short meting, which only lasted about two and a half-hours. This day care center should provide a much needed service for the community.

While I have a chance, I'd like to thank the council for appointing me to fill the vacancy at last month's non-zoning meeting. I appreciate the welcome everyone has given me since joining the council and look forward to serving our community with the same spirit and dedication of those who preceded me.

It's very clear what dedication the other council members have to our community. They are very qualified individuals, and also citizens that not only love the area in which they live, but also like what they do.

I was also very pleased with Chairman Jerry Howie; he's very knowledgeable and very fair when it comes to community issues. We are fortunate to have someone of this caliber as our chairman.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish our former chairman and council member, Ralph Arza, the best in his future endeavors and success in his current campaign for the State House of Representatives, District 12.

I'd like to encourage more people within the community to become familiar with the workings of the community council and the West Dade Federation. A better understanding of this process can make us all more successful.

Our next meeting will be held at the Ryder Charter School at 7 p.m. on Apr. 27 in the cafeteria.

I hope to see you there!
