1. Incorporation

4. Facilitation of more places of worship
5. Traffic flow/Roadway improvement
Incorporation is the number one priority for Doral
because it is a facilitator for everything we're trying to
accomplish--it will expedite what I'd like to accomplish both
time-wise and financially. We wouldn't have to rely on the same
bureaucratic channels that we currently do--we could get things
accomplished much quicker and have more revenue to work with.
We need to make a real effort to help improve those
facilities that would serve our children as well.
Overcrowding in our schools is a major concern, a
tremendous problem. Our children don't get the attention they deserve,
the quality of education that's owed to them. It's our obligation to
provide good schooling for our children-- it's not a privilege.
Our parks, specifically for the children of the
community, should be a priority--they're an important part of a
child's development. Sports give kids an outlet for their energy and
teaches them the importance of things like discipline and teamwork;
they give them direction, take them off the streets. And perhaps most
importantly, it gives parents and their children positive things that
they can do together.
The police presence in our community needs to be
stepped up as well to deter criminals from targeting the area. Right
now if, say, we have 60 officers on duty, something like half of those
could be off in another part of the county responding to something
else at any given time. To keep our community and families safe, we
need to have total coverage all the time--a consistent police presence
as a deterrent rather than the police as a reactive force.
As the son of an Episcopalian minister--I grew up in
the church--I recognize also that there is a spiritual side to all of
us which needs to be nurtured.
No matter what denomination we may be, we are in need
of more houses of worship closer to home, more accessible--there is
currently only one full-time in Doral, and for many of us it is very
inconvenient to go outside Doral to fulfill our spiritual needs.
Finally, we need to be more forward thinking with our
traffic plans and anticipate where the growth in our community is
going to be. Doral is growing quickly and we need to be prepared to
accommodate that--we must have the infrastructure in place for when
that growth does take place.
