High Tech Security Systems Designed Here Installed Throughout Hemisphere

BY ART JACOBSON

Michael G. Silverman, the owner of Control Electronic Security, Inc., has been in the electronic security business for nearly thirty years. Although his offices are located at 8245 NW 36 Street, near Miami International Airport, many of the security systems he designs are installed in South and Central America as well as the Caribbean.

Michael G. Silverman, the owner of Control Electronic Security, Inc., has designed, supplied, and installed electronic security systems for many prominent firms and individuals throughout South Florida

"Unlike some companies which just sell hardware, we offer a comprehensive service which includes surveying the property to be protected, recommending the type of devices to be deployed and where, supplying the hardware, installing it, and training the people who will use it," he said.

That is why the company has been selected to provide security systems for a wide range of international clientele including governmental agencies, hotels, restaurants, cruise lines, race tracks, printing plants, factories, oil companies, office buildings, warehouses, retail stores, residences and others.

According to Silverman, there are over 50,000 electronic security products on the market today, with new ones being introduced continuously.

Control Electronics' expertise extends beyond knowing which products are best for each application, but in designing and installing systems which take maximum advantage of each. If they cannot find the precise product required, they will design and manufacture it themselves.

Among the many products available from Control Electronic Security, Inc. are closed circuit televisions; metal detectors; electronic article surveillance (anti-shoplifting) devices; burglar alarms; fire alarms; access control card readers, palm readers and keypads; gate motors; audio plus audio/video intercoms; parking lot access control apparatus including vehicle control and collection products; perimeter security equipment such as special fencing, sensors and beams; x-ray machines; money counters and counterfeit detectors; safes; hotel room locking systems; personal protection and hold-up protection products; bulletproof clothing and vehicles; and others.

The company also offers its customers central station monitoring and guard services.

"Cameras are by far the most widely purchased products," Silverman says. "We offer a wide variety, some are as small as a quarter and others are hidden in such common items as clock radios, smoke detectors, wall clocks, exit signs, books or even eye glass cases. Among the many different kinds available are wireless, bullet and weather proof models; plus cameras which pan, tilt and zoom."

Silverman first became interested in electronic security while serving with an Intelligence/Engineering unit of US Army. He was the manager of a small alarm company in New York which he later purchased and merged with similar companies in New Jersey and Philadelphia. He eventually sold the entire company and moved to Florida to "retire".

He received a BS in Business from Temple University, an MBA in Economics from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and an Electrical Engineering degree from Rutgers and Drexel Universities.

A former member of the Board of Directors of the Industrial Association of Dade County and the Airport West Chamber of Commerce, Silverman is active in numerous civic and trade associations. These include the Association For Security Administration Professionals, the American Society For Industrial Security, Construction Specifiers International, the Greater Miami.
