Robert Thomas, Miami-Dade County Public Schools Region
III superintendent, categorically denied rumors that Doral Middle
School's September opening would be delayed.
"That's jumping the gun, because my understanding
is that Doral Middle will be coming on line as expected in
September," Thomas said.
He said there were contingency plans in effect should
there be any unexpected snags. That is the case with the opening of
any new school,
"We do have alternatives in place," Thomas
said. "We would move the kids to another school until Doral
Middle could open, most likely John I. Smith [Elementary] and/or Miami
Springs [Middle]."
Thomas sought to calm fears of those parents who were
worried about what would happen if they were to move their children to
another school temporarily should the middle school not open on time.
Thomas said that under no circumstances would such a
move put the child's position at Doral Middle in jeopardy.
"Those children will not lose their spot at the
school," he said.
Thomas added that he had no idea where the speculation
about the delays could have come from, and that he hadn't heard of any
problems.
"I haven't heard anything as far as that goes. As
far as we've heard, that school will be opening on time, as scheduled,
this fall."
