New Hampton Inn and Suites at Doral Boulevard pays attention to detail

BY MACADAM GLINN

It begins with the first meal of the day.  At most hotels, the continental breakfast might include stale corn flakes, sour orange juice, and an achingly depressing dining area.

However, at new Hampton Inn and Suites at Doral Boulevard the weary traveler is offered a "Deluxe Breakfast Buffet" consisting of oatmeal, waffles, French toast sticks, French pastries, English Muffins, four kinds of juice, three kinds of cappuccino, and every flavor of Kellogg's cereal you can possibly imagine.

"It's all complimentary," explained Hampton Inn and Suites at Doral Boulevard GM John Oakley, "and we even serve it on real glassware and china--no other Hampton Inn does that."

The open-air dining room is also a refreshing change with it's 25-inch color TV, located adjacent to the two-story indoor atrium at the hotel's entrance and their enormous, well-stocked fish tank.

And what vacationer doesn't know the heartache of looking over the phone bill at the end of a stay and discovering that local calls were $.75 apiece or that you were charged for supposedly toll free calls to your long distance carrier.

"All local calls are free," said Oakley, "and there is no deposit required for phone service. There is also a free modem connection in every room as well as free access to all 800 numbers and free long distance access also."

There are also two phones in every one of the Hampton Inn and Suites' rooms and three phones in each of their suites.

Besides the phones, the rooms themselves are chock-full of almost any thing the discriminating traveler might require. They come with built-in hair dryers, irons and ironing boards, and coffee machines (with coffee and tea). Each TV also has "Lodgenet" built in, which allows the guest to order pay-per-view movies, play Nintendo video games, and even check out of their room on screen.

The suites are equipped with full kitchens and a complete kitchenware set, microwaves, dishwashers, a two burner stove, two color 25-inch TV's and a VCR, a separate private bedroom, and different sorts of workstations in each of the different types of suites.

Not only that, you can store all your valuables in a digital safe--one of which can be found in every room and suite.

"We're the only Hampton Inn to offer that as well," he said.

And there is another exclusive coming to the Hampton Inn and Suites soon: "Darwin" high-speed cable modem access, available in every room for just $10 a day.

The Hampton Inn and Suites also has its own oversized pool with an extra-large pool area--the perfect spot to spend a couple of free hours in the after noon.

"We're also in the process of getting a liquor license," Oakley said, "and we'd like to build a Tiki Hut by the pool as well. Between that and the two big Weber gas grills we already have out there we hope to have afternoon barbecues, and although they'll primarily for the guests, we will welcome any one in the community that wants to come out."

The Hampton Inn and Suites at Doral Boulevard also boasts several other helpful facilities that are available to the guests. Besides their great cardio-exercise room, the two separate guest laundry facilities, and the "Suite Shop" fully stocked with sundries and snacks downstairs, they also have a special room devoted to the business traveler.

Oakley said, "We have a business center adjacent to the lobby that contains two computers with complete Internet access, laser printers, and DVD players. It is also equipped with a copying service and fax service as well as soft seating."

Finally, the Hampton Inn and Suites has two separate meeting rooms on the ground floor: one for fifty people and a boardroom designed for ten. They even have, or can get, just about every type of AV equipment you could possibly require for your presentation.

But Oakley stressed that despite all these features perhaps the best thing about the Hampton Inn and Suites is the quality of its staff.

"I brought the entire staff over with me from the Hampton Inn on Brickell," he said, "from the front office executives to the housekeeping."
