West Dade Federation of Homeowner Associations (WDFHA)
President Morgan Levy will be producing and hosting a three-month
cable television program on WLRN called "Good Government is Close
to the People."

Doral's new middle school, slated to open its doors in the fall of
this year, is taking shape. The school is located on Doral's western
edge, at NW 50th Street and NW 112th Avenue.
The program will be airing three times a week, Tuesday
at 9 AM, Wednesday at 2 PM, and Thursday at 7 PM. All in all, 12 of
the program episodes will be broadcast: one per week for the months of
February, March, and April and each program will be 30 minutes in
length. Incorporation advocate and University of Miami Political
Science Professor Dr. Marsha Matson will host five of the episodes.
Levy, a longtime advocate of the incorporation of
Doral and Miami-Dade's other unincorporated communities, is also the
chairman of the Dade Coalition for Good Government (DCFGG), a
non-profit organization he began ten years ago. It is the DCFGG that
will be sponsoring the program.
"It's our hope that this TV series will provide
the information to the people living in the Unincorporated Municipal
Service Area (UMSA) and Miami-Dade's 30 municipalities of the benefits
of incorporation. We'd like to inspire them to encourage their county
commission to vote in favor of that issue. We've been restrained by a
moratorium, a gridlock, since 1996--three years ago. We want to show
them that its time to move ahead," Levy said.
Each episode will cover a different topic, all of
which will discuss the merits of incorporation. These include: Is Your
Voice Being Heard?, Citizen Petition--Term Limits for County
Commissioners, Citizen's Petition--Citizen's Right to Vote on
Incorporation, Local Police Departments Answer the Need, Strict Code
Enforcement: Living by the Rules, The Realities of Building and
Zoning, Lack of Parks, Park Programs, and Green Space, Closer
Government Provides Better Services, Accountable Representation: One
Person, One Vote, Modest Income Communities Can Incorporate and Do
Better for Themselves, Corruption in Government: Restoring the
Public's Confidence in Government, and Citizen's Make Waves.
However, Levy emphasized that this will not be a
give-and-take discussion on the relative virtues of incorporation,
rather it will extol the virtues of that effort.
"We hope to create an educational program that
shows the benefits of incorporation as opposed to big government. It
will not debate incorporations merits," he said.
The programs will all follow the same format with a
host/moderator and between three and four guests who will discuss that
week's topic.
The guests will run the gamut from community activists
to former and present officials from the county and state. Amongst the
recognizable names to commit to the program are Gerald Kogan, former
chief justice of the Florida Supreme Court and president of Alliance
for Ethical Government, County Commissioners Miriam Alonso and Jimmy
Morales, and Mayors Evelyn Greer of Pinecrest and Dave Sampson of
Sunny Isles Beach.
Several Doral residents will also participate in the
programs. Doral Community Council (DCC) Chairman Jerry Howie and DCC
members Ralph Arza and Odel Torres (also a VP of the WDFHA) will
appear, and so will WDFHA VP Jesse Jones.
Two members of the Let's Incorporate Now Coalition (LINC),
Co-Chair Beverly Gerald and Secretary Ken Bluh, will also each appear
on one program apiece.
