Mayor
Alex Penelas to speak at July 18 Luncheon
At our July 18 luncheon you'll have an opportunity to hear from , and
meet, Mayor Alex Penelas as he presents "The State of the
County." Since the Airport West area is the fastest growing
region in Miami-Dade County, you'll want to hear what's happening in
our County and what is planned for the future.
The luncheon will be held at the Fire Tower (better
known as the Firefighters Memorial Building) at 8000 NW 21 Street.
Register for the luncheon buy calling the Doral &
Airport West Chamber of Commerce at 305 592 5141 or by sending an
e-mail to <dawcc@msn.com>.
Registration fees are $20 for members and $25 for
non-embers if you make your reservations by Friday, June 14 -- add $5
if you register at the door.
The program begins with registration and networking at
11:30 AM with the luncheon starting promptly at noon.
Chamber membership drive a success
Our first ever membership drive was quite a success. We had a great
response from area businesses. The best part is that even though our
campaign is over, we keep hearing from area businesses that are
interested in joining. Remember, the Doral & Airport West Chamber
is your chamber.
We offer monthly membership meetings, networking
events and programs on topics of concern to area businesses. Find out
more about the Chamber. You'll be glad you did!
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department now located in
Doral
By now we're sure you know that the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department
has opened their new headquarters on NW 41 Street, having remodeled
the old Eastern-Doral building.
The first group to move in was the Emergency
Management Office (just in time for hurricane season) followed by the
rest of the Fire-Rescue Department's administrative staff.
The grand opening celebration will be held on
Friday, July 28.
Doral is now home to the county's two most important and visible
departments -- the Miami-Dade Police Department Headquarters, which is
located on NW 25 Street and the new Miami-Dade Fire-Rescue
Headquarters.
Chamber "adopts" NW 41st Street
At the Chamber we have long believed that we must do more than
represent businesses in our community, we must also ensure that we
take into consideration the needs of our residents.
One issue that is troublesome to both residents and
businesses is the condition of our roadways. We believe that everyone
will agree that clean attractive roadways are a benefit to our
community as a whole.
That's why the Chamber joined Miami-Dade County's
"Adopt-A-Road" program. We have "adopted" and will
be responsible for a 2-mile stretch of NW 41 Street between NW 87
Avenue and NW 107 Avenue.
What that means is you will soon see Chamber members
doing periodic cleanups of this area, ensuring this major roadway --
in the heart of Doral -- is clean and well kept. It will mean a lot of
hard work for Chamber members, but it is well worth the extra effort
to ensure our roadways reflect the beauty of our community.
Mr. Abbate serves as vice president of Public Affairs
for the Doral & Airport West Chamber of Commerce and is Director
of Communications and Resource Development for Carrfour Corporation.
